Schools in Session

Schools in Session

With School beginning in some places and just about to begin in others, kids must begin reprogramming their minds to things of academic excellence after months of not having to utilize these tools because they were on summer vacation. First, we should never stop learning! Second, we must understand it’s oftentimes harder to restart something then just keep it moving forward. Third, the best students (players or professions) never halt using their most effective tool(s) for a season.

Jesus tried to always keep his disciples sharp, so they wouldn’t fall prey to an enemy’s attack. He told them there’d be season they’d be ever hearing, but never understanding. Season where you grew tired of being told and wanted to just do what pleased you. Well in many cases, we have (we’ve stopped obeying God, stopped humbling ourselves, stopped testifying to the goodness of our God, and stopped serving).

In order to begin the school year successfully, a student must mentally prepare himself for the new year. He/she must get the proper supplies, right classes (for his abilities), and re-shift priorities, with earlier wake up times and more time focused on reading and homework. Adapting late will get you poor grades early.

Well it’s no different spiritually. Since many of us are preparing kids for their new season, it would only make sense if we adapted and made necessary adjustments at this time as well.

1. Die to oneself: The last season (summer) has been about you, now it’s time for this season to be about someone else (Luke 9:23).

2. Obey the commands: The only way to experience God’s promises is to obey his commands. Don’t forget you’ll never say yes to the big things God commands, if you can’t say yes to the small ones (Deuteronomy 23:1-14).

3. Testify: Regardless how off track you’ve been, tell others about God’s mercy and his loving kindness towards you (Psalm 108:1-4).

4. Serve with a smile: This season find some people who need their needs met, and do it wholeheartedly as if you were doing it for the Lord (Matthew 25: 37-40).

5. Start off strong: If whatever you do, you should do it as if unto the Lord (Col 3:23); then you should begin well, for if you get too far behind, you may not catch up (1 Corinthians 9:27).
