Spring Forward, Fall Back

Spring forward, Fall back

When I was growing up, the way I was told to remember the seasons and how to set my clock was in the Fall (October), my clock would get ‘set back’, thereby getting an extra hour of sleep ( I loved that change of season), hence ‘Fall Back’. But in the Spring, I would set my clock ‘forward’ and lose an hour of sleep, hence ‘Spring Forward’ but the benefit would be with the time moving forward, it stayed light longer, and we could enjoy more of our day, because of the light. I hope you all got that parallel!

See, when we came into the Fall season, we did get an extra hour of sleep, but in reality, that’s nothing compared to all of what we will lose? Think about it, we have to go into the house earlier, there will be less to do because it gets dark quicker, things close up vs. losing an hour up front, but not losing countless memories, time spent with friends, or missed opportunities, because we had more time to walk in the light (I could shout right there!).

Today’s the day to begin giving up a little today (temporary gratification), so that you’ll enjoy the fruits of your labor tomorrow. Most folk want instant gratification, but God has given us farming analogies as promises that if we utilize them, we will benefit from them.

“Whatever a man sows, that he shall reap.” Galatians 6:7

“Give and it will be given unto you, a good measure pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it shall be measured to you”. Luke 6:38

Therefore in order to really get ahead and have God blessing your land, stop looking for instant blessings and begin sowing, giving, praying, and serving; and then watch God move you forward because you placed fast growing seeds of faith into your ground called “LIFE”, which will allow you to walk in favor (light); not just during the Spring season, but every season of your life. You will Spring Forward, but not Fall Back! Ask Abraham (Gen 13:5-18), Widow at Zarephath (1 Kings 17:7-16), or Parable of servant (Matt 25:15-21); they all received better after they gave what they had.

Try God, It’s a new season,

Pastor Kirkland A. Smith
